I’m four weeks into a training program with Can Too, and just want to do a loud shout out to this terrific organisation.
Can Too runs training programs for people who want to learn to run well, do ocean swims or do triathlons. Can Too provides the training, and trainees, like me, pledge to raise money for Cure Cancer Australia.
I’m doing the ocean swim training, with the goal being the 2.5km ocean swim from Palm Beach to Whale Beach on Sunday 27th January.
This goal is so far beyond my comfort zone. A real, and huge, challenge.
But after just these three weeks of twice weekly training, I think that it might be manageable… so long as I keep the training up.
Training With Can Too
My ‘pod’ trains at the pool on Wednesday evenings and at Mona Vale beach on Saturday mornings. I’ve already learned so much about reading the ocean, swimming safely in big waves and getting in and out of the water safely.
AND we swam with dolphins on the third training session. Just amazing.
Can Too itself doesn’t charge for the training. Corporate sponsors cover the cost of the charity’s expenses. Good on those corporations!
Sponsorship – Fundraising For Cure Cancer Australia
I have to raise $1250 in sponsorship and ALL of that goes to support young Australian cancer researchers. It’s a really great cause.
I’m sponsoring myself, at least for half of that amount. All the money I earn through blogging will go into my fundraising.
And I asked my family not to give my Christmas pressies, but to sponsor me instead.
It feels really good to do something that at the start seems far beyond my capabilities. And it’s so lovely to be part of a group. Some of us are aiming for the 1km swim, others for the 2.5km swim, and we’re all in it together.
It’d be impossible to do the Wednesday night and early Saturday morning training if I didn’t have Bethany our lovely American au pair living with us. Hooray for B!
I’ll blog about this training journey and must also post on gorgeous Mona Vale beach and the excellent kiosk/cafe there which provides life saving post-training coffees!
You can find my sponsorship page here. I think I will soon start baking cupcakes and selling candles as part of my fundraising efforts. Money from adverts and sponsored posts on this blog will go into this sponsorship for this month too.
We lost a dear friend and neighbour to cancer this year. His children lost a devoted, warm and loving father. It feels so good to work my body hard, for my own health, and to swim to raise money for Cure Cancer Australia.
Have you done a sponsored something?
Any top tips for fundraising?
Keep on baking???
