Splashing Out – A Night at The Langham in Melbourne

In need of some calming down after the rantings of the last post….  here are some lovely photos from one night of sheer bliss at a five star hotel in Melbourne. Ah sweet memories….

I meant to post these pix much earlier but got distracted. Myself and my pal Susanne went down to to do the City To Sea run last year… or walk and run in my case.

As luck would have it, I had a travel voucher from Escape Travel which I’d got after doing a speaking job for them.

Who doesn’t love to splash out? And in this case it didn’t feel as if it cost me anything at all. Double win.

The Langham in Melbourne is a very very grand hotel. Our one night there in a Grand River Room (and it was very grand) cost $500. Gasp!

Have a look at the rooms in the hotel here.

I had a look at current prices and they are quite a bit lower at the moment, look here.

Here are some visions of opulence and extravagance.

Me and Sus had to take a breath and summon some courage before we went up the steps and lowered the tone of this very grand hotel.

Views from our bedroom, so very glam.

And even more glam at night – this hotel is on the South Bank, very central indeed.

You have to love a rooftop pool. And cos it’s Melbourne, it’s sensibly indoors. But the roof terrace is fab for sunny days.

Short laps here in the pool, but it’s very pretty.

Magnificent and enormous chandelier… so unlike home!

You know you’re somewhere grand when the carpet has stair rods.

And the toilet roll has its own seal.

The lift doors are a shimmery gold.

And the pianist tinkles away – charming.

But Sus and I were there for some exercise. I mostly walked in fact. A fantastic way to see Melbourne. More on the City To Sea here.

But there’s nothing like a bit of luxury to set mums up for the domesticity of the week ahead.

A little luxury goes a long way, does it not?
